Ringkasan Kegiatan

Sustainable development is argued to be closely related to the existence of indigenous knowledge. Furthermore, most indigenous communities in Indonesia, such as in Aceh, Maluku and Kasepuhan Ciptagelar, have been able to maintain the efficient use of the land, as well as preserving land and natural resources. This behavior is in accordance to the recent movement on smart growth, in which focusing on development in compact urban areas on achieving sustainability. While defining their settlement areas, the indigenous communities have also been actively delineated the natural preservation areas. Of the main problems on fulfillment of sustainable development in Indonesia is the existence of conflicts regarding to management of natural resources, including land, among public sector, private sector and indigenous community. Accordingly, mapping of indigenous communities’ territories, as well as the re-definition of various legal interests attached to pieces of land in question, is expected to be of the main steps to resolve such conflict.
