Three major groups of activities were carried out: observation, module preparation, and workshop/training. Observation was conducted to determine specific needs of the target of participants and to determine appropriate approaches of the workshop. The team opened opportunities to cooperate with the Sumedang government and social institutions – Dinas Koperasi Usaha Kecil dan Menengah Kabupaten Sumedang. In the module preparation process, the team designed, arranged, and evaluated the workshop modules. Furthermore, the workshop and overall evaluation were carried out. The Microsoft Excel workshop for SMEs in Sumedang was conducted virtually on September 5-12th, 2020. The workshop was held in two main agendas: (1) Microsoft Excel Advanced functions workshop; and (2) Microsoft Excel workshop for calculating Cost of Goods Sold (COGS). The workshop materials were presented by online videos and supporting modules. Each of materials were equipped with exercise files so that participants could immediately do practice from materials that had been presented. Assistance was also divided into two phases according to the main agendas through small group discussions. It aimed to assist the participants in completing the given exercises and to help any technical difficulties. The workshop was carried out smoothly. The participants felt that the provided materials were useful to help their business operations. COGS calculation workshop was also helpful to determine the right price in a detailed and structured methodology.

The increase of market competition, Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) need some knowledge about how to make decisions quickly, efficiently, and appropriately. Decision Support System (DSS) is an information system that helps the decision-making process by identifying decision making or providing related information (Whitten & Bentley, 2007). In this case, Information System and Decision Laboratory of Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management Study Program conducted a community service programs through a workshop/training in developing DSS using a software for SMEs. Microsoft Excel was chosen as the right software for this workshop because Microsoft Excel was commonly used even though not many people know the advanced functions of this software. This workshop was targeted for SMEs in Sumedang, West Java. The objectives of this program are: (1) to conduct case studies on the development and use of DSS in SMEs; and (2) to provide some knowledge about data management and DSS.
