Taruna batik which was established in 2009 as a batik center managed by the villagers of Loji village in the Community Learning Center (PKBM) of Bina Taruna (founded in 2007). According to Widiawati (2009), the creative process of craft artisan can be influenced by their natural background as well as their cultural tradition. Therefore, the development of the batik cloths is needed to improve the product quality to escalate the market competitiveness by utilizing local potentials such as natural dyes. The use of natural dyes can be influenced by the natural condition (Widiawati, 2018) and also the availability of the local plant species (Widiawati, 2013). Furthermore, natural dyes taken from the surrounding environment can produce the specific color of the areas (Anas, et al., 1995). Based on the aforementioned background, there is an issue found which is the batik artisan still using synthetic dyes due to their limited knowledge in utilizing local potentials. Due to that issue, this project aims to raise the value of local entities in Loji village by utilizing natural dyes. The results of this workshop are various alternatives to indigenous batik cloths.
