Ringkasan Kegiatan

Studies on Cikakembang River quality have been carried out since 2013. The toxicity of the effluents and also river water by Maulini (2014) showed that the lethal concentration (LC50 96hrs) of 3 effluent samples from Cikakembang River water on Daphnia. magna were considered toxic LC50 > 100%). Therefore it is important to improve the river water quality to meet better aquatic ecosystem and the river water usage downstream. This study showed that the community was appreciated the availability of technology to improve the river water. They wanted to see the river becoming clean again. In this study, the community had been involved in the installation of the filter reactor in the river, the monitoring of the filtration in the river from any garbage/rubbish and other activity related to maintain the filter construction in the river. They felt that the filtration was too difficult to be constructed and applied in the field situation. The filter required washing if it had been clogged by the suspended and settleable materials and solids. In addition, although the quality measurement showed that removal of some parameters were detected, but the people thought that it did not change dramatically the water quality visually so they think that this filter was not effectively improve the water quality. In conclusion, this study resulted that the application of simple filtration could be considered as alternative to improve the river water quality. It offered a reduction of some parameters to recover and restore the river. However, further study was suggested to develop the filter design and practical application. It was also possible to combine the use of this filter with other alternative techniques available. Furthermore, it might be suggested to test other possible alternative technology in field application such as aeration method which might be more easily applied in the river water condition.

The toxicity of the effluents and also river water by Maulini (2014) showed that the lethal concentration (LC50 96hrs) of 3 effluent samples from Cikakembang River water on Daphnia. magna were considered toxic LC50 > 100%). The LC50 of effluents was strongly correlated with DO, phenol, and chromium of textile effluents (r>0.8; p<0.05). Furthermore another study also detected a genotoxicity effect on chromosome aberration of Allium cepa after exposed to 3 effluent samples in Cikakembang River and the river water (Iriany, 2014; Salami et al., 2014). Therefore it is important to improve the river water quality to meet better aquatic ecosystem and the river water usage downstream.
