Small-medium enterprises (SMEs) need a different path to successfully implement Industry 4.0 (Horvath and Szabo, 2019). This is due to the large difference in SMEs compared with MNEs in competitive advantage regarding the resources and infrastructure for Industry 4.0 implementation, such as low familiarity with state-of-the art technologies, low capital, low production capabilities, low level of manpower skill and knowledge. As such, this research is done to answer the question of “How to help Indonesian SMEs in implementing Industry 4.0 concepts and technologies?”. This will be done developing a framework for Industry 4.0 implementation in Indonesian SMEs. The framework is a 6-step implementation framework which consists of: • Connecting Step • Sensing Step • Decision Making Step • Supply chain & Consumer Linking Step • New Product and Process Creation Step • Business Process Improvement Step The resulting framework is then implemented in a mushroom farm SME located in West Java. The mushroom farm is selected for the research because it is a part of the agri-food sector, one of the 5 strategic sectors mentioned before. Also, it is typical of the SME in Indonesia, in that it uses low level of technology and the investment in technology is relatively small. Further research will be done to implement the next steps of the framework. Other than that, the framework will be implemented in SMEs of other industrial sectors. The results of the other implementation will be collected and used to further improve the framework in the future.
