Batik is a traditional fabric from Indonesia that has a distinctive look, as well as the process of making it. In this program, a slightly new batik making process has been invented with the following steps: 1. Wax is drawn on the batik fabric using canting or cap. 2. The fabic is dyed in the dyedbath of indigo color solutant. 3. The fabric then illuminated by ultaviolet light to activated the indigo molecule. This step is the uniqueness of the new process. 4. The fabric is in indigo solvent, thus fixing the indigo color. 5. The fabric is washed to remove the wax To implement the method, an apparatus for batik color activator using ultra-violed LED has been developed, and installed at the Batik Komar’s production center. Some small scale testing have been conducted and shows some promising results. However, further research is still required to achieve higher technology readiness level.
