Movie is a story that is represented using a sequence of moving pictures, also known as animation. Movie has a higher cognition form compared to a text-based story. It employs two human senses: visual and audio to give a better experience compared to text-based and picture-based media. Normally, the task to create animation scene from a text-based story is conducted manually by a visual designer. Starting by creating a storyboard that represents a simplified version of the animation. Storyboards are then transformed into corresponding scenes. The purpose of this research is to develop a system that could produce an animation scene automatically from a narrative text so that a designer no longer have to design the scene from text to storyboard to scene, but rather just add a minor change to an already generated scene. The main contribution of this research is designing a text to scene generation system with this purpose for Indonesian where no other system designed for this particular task before. Our system is working under some specific conditions. First, it accepts Indonesian Narrative as the input text. Second, the input of our system doesn’t have a pronoun, or if it does, the pronoun would be treated as a proper noun. In this research, we successfully developed an automatic scene descriptor generator from a narrative sentence in Indonesian. According to the experiment, our system overall has a relatively better performance compared to several others. There are some exceptions such as the background element in which WordsEye has a better performance than our system. There’s still some improvement needed though, the data corpus should be expanded to increase the performance and allow our system to work in a broader environment. Semantic parsing could be considered for future works because it works just like constituency parsing but allows for a more dynamic template. To complete our system, a visualization component is needed to be developed in future research.
