One major problem with wireless capsule endoscopy is the accurate tracking of the capsule inside the human body. This report presents an evaluation of linear algorithm to estimate the location and orientation of magnetic endoscopic capsule using data from a planar magnetic sensor array. We evaluate the method using measured data from several configurations of magnetic sensor arrays, as well as simulated noise test with two configurations of 4x4 and 13x13 sensors. Both experiments show that linear algorithm can work properly only in low-noise environments. The conclusion from this research is experiments using both real sensors and simulation data show that linear algorithm may be a suitable method for tracking magnetic endoscopic capsule in low-noise environments. The accuracy of estimated position and orientation increases when the magnet is placed closer to the sensors, as well as if more sensors are used for the magnetic field measurement. Last, we also note that it may not work properly in two very particular cases due to matrix singularity issues inherent in the method.
