Falling leaves and other organic MSW (municipal solid waste) may be converted to RDF (refused derived fuel) and utilized as a source of an alternative and renewable energy. At this moment, this type of biomass collected at a temporary disposal land behind the campus. This experimental study was dealing with upgrading of falling leaves to solid fuel or RDF. The objectives are evaluation of: (a) important parameters in pelletizing falling leaves; (b) performance of gasification; and (c) conceptual design of MSW processing unit with self energy supply using gasification process. Falling leaves were collected from ITB Ganesa Campus. Falling Leaves were grinded using a kitchen blender to get fine particles having sizes of about 0.5 mm. Ultimate and proximate analysis of biomass were carried out at Coal Laboratory in Research and Development Centre of a Mineral and Coal, Ministry of ESDM.
