Airplane is the fast transportation for long distance cross islands and countries. Airplane must be fast move because in the air no obstacle significantly. The travel times between cities at a country mostly no more than two hours, even longest distance travel times such from Indonesia to United State of America is less than 24 hours. Event so, airplane has high risk level. Risk is combination between probability of failure and consequence of occurs. The airplane fail could be low because of applying high technology and tight controlling, but the consequences if accident are death of passenger and crew, death of crash area, loss of building and facilities at crash place, the airplane itself, until the people traumatic. Research method is used are literature and numerical study. Activity start with identification of weapon bullet caliber. Then continue to numerical modeling of tank and bullet/projectile. Numerical study applies to bullet shot the existing tank, then bullet shot the rubber as self-healing material, then analysis of rubber sealed the hole by bullet shot. And finally recommendation for material self-healing. Numerical method is done by several steps. The first step is modelling tank and bullet, then define the material of all model, then set the boundary condition and load. To accelerate the computation process, the modelling simplified into one wall which will be shoot. The meshing strategy devided into early and final.

From planecrashinfo.com data, almost every month was occurred airplane accidents around the world which cause death or severe injury. The airplane explosion by bullet shot in last 20 years was 4th time happen. There are Ukraine airplane at 2020, Malaysian airplane at 2014, Belarusian airplane at 2007, and Russian airplane at 2001 with all of the passengers and crews are death. Based on military standard, the possible bullet caliber for airplane shot is medium level, caliber 0.5 or 13 mm bullet diameter. Strategy for minimize the fatalities when accidents is by protecting the easy explosion part. The easy explosion part is fuel tank. Fuel tank must be preferred does not explode when got shot. Besides that, the leakage of fuel tank by bullet shot must be reduce by the healing of material. This strategy should be study furthermore focus at applying self-healing materials with numerical study at airplane fuel tank.
