The purpose of this study is to obtain a relatively new alternative thought on space and its manifestations. This thought is expected to be benefit for: 1) spatial design scientific development, and 2) scientific enrichment of design science and visual culture, especially in spatial issues. This research employs qualitative‐theoretical method with a phenomenological approach. In this study, intangible matters beneath the spatial form, including the socio‐cultural situation attached to it, will be the objective to be revealed. Interpretation phase in this study consists of two stages: 1) interpretation of the values and meanings of space that are commonly manifested in everyday life (objective), including field observations and interviews, and 2) interpretation of real (subjective) spatial situations. The manifestation of space cannot be separated from the mechanism of everyday life, including some features therein. In this case, people work and interact with thought and its representations. In a realm where digital media has played a lot of roles, people have a chance to find alternative means in externalizing their thought. Specifically, digital media enables people in negotiating their spatial thoughts with another. This actually is a critical point towards space production in contemporary digitally‐mediated society.

This study questions the media intervention on the spatial embodiment. Here, the assumption of media intervention is more focused on the discourse of space creation which includes people’s spatial preference/perception and its manifestations. This intervention can actually be found in the everyday space where digital media or technology is being utilized in creating atmospheric spatial quality. This fact opens some opportunities for people in exploring some spatial practices, including its production. The arising problem of this situation is that space might no longer be as meaningful as in conventional understanding. It is, in fact, a production of factual space where the meaning is arbitrary and experience‐based. Therefore, this research aims to reveal the discourse as well as the production mechanism of this kind of space in everyday life.
