This book is a compilation of previous lecture notes and research reports written on this topic. The manuscripts have been prepared for quite some time. And as we finally publish this book, it so happens that the new design method for pavements in Indonesia is introduced at the same time. This book covers both the empirical and the mechanistic pavement design approaches. The first approach has been used since as early as 1970, while the latter was first implemented in Indonesia in 2013. The mechanistic pavement design approach employs quite detailed technical models. It offers more objective measures in predicting pavement performance, hence it gives more assurance to achieve the expected design on the real outcome. The book presents model equations used for these approaches. It includes some examples of design based on these principles. Factors affecting the design are explained in depth, including problems concerning early pavement damage and high maintenance costs. Finally, the book also outlines computerized design procedure using computer program PastDean-M. Limited access to this program computer is granted along with the purchase of this book.
