This research is a comparative study of ceramics production centers (centers) in Indonesia and Japan. This studikomparative involves researchers from Indonesia and Japan, each of which takes two centers as a subject of research. Sentra ceramics in Indonesia is Sitiwinangun Village, Cirebon Regency, West Java and Bumijaya Village, Serang Regency, Banten. While ceramic centers in Japan are in the Tajimi area, Gifu Prefecture and Seto Region, Aichi Prefecture. Research Results is a report in the form of books that contain several posts according to the aspects of ceramic objects in each center. The writing will discuss the context that affects the aspects. In the perspective of the material culture, what this aspect referred to is a good variety that directly wants to not have an effect mainhading the meaning of an object. The aspect of this object is very influenced by the community. In this case, comparative studies will show equation as well as differences in Japanese and Indonesian society who influence the ceramic centers themselves. Understanding ceramic objects from a budayamatereal perspective is to see how the meaning of ceramics in the community. The meaning that will affect is not just a way of treating or using a limenda but also how to make and form the object itself. The main aspects to be studied in the studinion are the meaning of tradition, because in ceramic centers, traditions are generally the main identity. The definition of tradition in this context is a variety of things, either forms, methods or techniques, and functions, which are associated with cultural identity of ceramics in a center. How internally a ceremony center is a tradition, and vice versa how the community outside the group includes tradition. This is one of the attention of this comparative utamastudi. Thisstudi gives a picture of contextuality in the practice of communal ceramic production. The picture will be able to strengthen the perspective of diversity and teaseriness that will be one of the important issues in the latest developments, when the boundaries between cultures are increasingly interacting.
