Sanitation Solutions in Kapuas River Settlements Using Tripikon-S Technology by ITB and PKM FTSL

The Research and Community Service Institute (LPPM) of Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), through the Community Service Program (PKM) of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, has initiated an effort to introduce Tripikon-S sanitation technology to settlements along the Kapuas River.

Tripikon-S is a device that functions like a septic tank, designed to address sanitation issues in areas with limited space or swampy land.

As a first step, two Tripikon-S sanitation units were constructed in Kelurahan Tambelan Sampit, East Pontianak District, involving local residents directly.

Jimmy Utomo, the head of Kelurahan Tambelan Sampit, hopes that household waste management will improve with the use of Tripikon-S. He expressed this hope while reviewing the PKM activities at one of the houses where a Tripikon-S unit was installed.

"With this activity, it is hoped that residents along the Kapuas River, especially in Tambelan Sampit, will receive education and exposure to appropriate technology that can be applied in each riverside home," he said.

The PKM activities, led by Dr. Ahmad Soleh Setiyawan and Prof. Prayatni Soewondo from the Environmental Engineering Study Program, and supported by students, also included community education through exhibitions at popular gathering spots.

The education aimed to introduce Tripikon-S sanitation technology and promote good domestic wastewater management in riverside settlements.
