The Art of Cigondewah Water Purification, the Result of Collaboration between ITB Artists and Scientists

Water, which is a basic need, is a challenge for the people of Cigondewah. The water from the Cigondewah River that used to flow through the rice fields and ponds has changed color and smells. Likewise with the residents' wells. In that condition, ITB scientist Prof. Ir. I Gede Wenten, M.Sc., Ph.D. and cultural Dr. Tisna Sanjaya, M. Sch. and try to give birth to a new 'spring'.

On Tuesday, December 28, 2021, Imah Budaya Cigondewah Gallery, held the Water Purifying Art Exhibition. This activity was attended by the Acting Mayor of Bandung, Yana Mulyana. He revealed that water is the source of civilization and life, therefore the source of springs must be preserved.

The exhibition, which was initiated by the artist Tisna Sanjaya, combines installation art with water purification technology from ITB scientist Prof. I Gede Wenten. The purified water comes from the Cikendal River and ground water.

Yana appreciates this idea because in that place river water can be used. Even ground water that has been processed can become direct drinking water.

"Hopefully with this installation we can spread it to several areas, so that the limitations of residents in accessing clean water can be handled," he said, quoted from coil.com.

Tisna Sanjaya said the cultural priesthood (Mother) of Cigondewah was present together in the midst of changing times that were constantly moving.

"His presence is intended as an alternative offer in the form of a process of elaborating the creation of cultural arts together with change, flowing with the source of the turbid water of the Cikendal river, and the noisy sounds of vehicles carrying various goods from factories," said Tisna Sanjaya in an interview on detik.com.

The presence of Imah Budaya Cigondewah became a respite. Silence while enjoying a sip of ground water and the remaining nature becomes a new spring. In addition, the Art of Water Purification is a concern of Tisna Sanjaya who is a native of Cigondewah. Currently, the environment in Cigondewah, especially the river, is different from before.

"This is a kind of prayer for the water of life from the residents of Baturengat Village for the universe," he said

Please note, at Imah Budaya (Mother) Cigondewah there is also a Water Purifying Art Exhibition featuring photos, paintings, and installations. The exhibition opens on 28 December 2021-28 January 2022.
