In Sumedang, effective and efficient waste management has become an essential need. One of the efforts made to address waste issues while simultaneously boosting the local economy is through the development and processing of waste by self-help groups.
The Community Service Team from LPPM ITB, led by Drs. Agus Karya Suhada, M.Sn, and Prof. Dr. Asep Sunandar, collaborates with the residents of Cibuluh Village, Ujungjaya District, Sumedang Regency, to utilize organic and inorganic waste. Through this initiative, they assist the agricultural sector by introducing waste shredder technology to produce liquid and solid organic fertilizers, which are expected to enhance soil quality and agricultural yields, such as Cavendish banana cultivation.
Dudung Sudrajat, the head of Cibuluh Village, fully supports this program. He hopes that this activity can motivate the community, especially farmers, to be more active in sorting and processing waste into organic fertilizer, which in turn will improve the local economy.
The LPPM ITB team also provides education on the use of these waste shredder machines to ensure that farmers' groups can operate them correctly. According to Prof. Dr. Asep Sunandar, Cibuluh Village has great potential, especially with the presence of a dam that can drive the growth of the agricultural industry in the area.
To implement the initiative directly in the field, the team not only conducted socialization but also handed over the waste shredder machines to the residents of Cibuluh Village. Drs. Agus Karya Suhada, M.Sn added that this program aims to create technology that benefits the community, particularly in Cibuluh Village.
